Marble House is a design of connection. Intertwining minimalist lines connect different sections of the house and connect the building to its surroundings. The main volume, consisting of two stories, is located towards the street and offers views of the street and the river flowing behind the plot. Minimalist lines contour the second volume and float over the 100-meter-long plot. Attached to the main volume and stretched out to the river, it connects the house and the river in a clear statement.

Intertwining lines connect spaces

Concept back facade

Interior and exterior spaces flow seamlessly together using a hybrid exterior corridor. This connects the main functions of the house with the secondary functions, such as the courtyard garden, sitting pit, indoor pool, and boathouse.

Extended lines of Marble House
"This house is characterised by its minimalist lines that float across the 100-metre-wide lot. This creates a connection from the front garden to the water. The house even offers the possibility of navigating the boat right into the house". Client | Marble House

GROUND FLOOR

The ground floor houses the main living functions. A continuous walkway connects the kitchen, living room, hallway, and office space, which can seem like one large space if the flush pocket doors are opened. Enough storage space is incorporated in the walls by the kitchen and office space. In the length of the plot the master bedroom is situated. It is separated from the indoor swimming pool via a hybrid space, disconnecting physically but connecting visually.

FIRST FLOOR

The first floor is entered via the dramatic half-circle staircase in the center of the house. The void accentuates this vertical movement and connects the first floor with the ground floor. Three luxurious ensuite bedrooms are located directly next to the central landing. A large outdoor terrace offers views over the plot and fades the boundary between indoor and outdoor. Lastly the royal fitness, home cinema and golf simulator fitted with an enormous 3×5 meter display finish the first floor.

BASEMENT LEVEL

The basement houses an 8-car garage, in which the client can store their extravagant car collection. A unique addition here is the lounge connected to the garage. From here, the cars can be viewed while enjoying a fine wine or whiskey.

SITUATION

The plot sits in between a street and a river. The house serves as a connection from both: the client can enter the house via car or boat.

Used materials

Providing
texture

The building is called Marble House for a reason. Using black Italian marble, façades are emphasized and gain a luxurious feel. The marble surfaces are interspersed with ceiling-high windows which offer spectacular views of the surroundings. The interplay of horizontal lines creates a tension between the surfaces and emphasize the length of the plot. These lines are finished with concrete, a raw and neutral material. Additionally, LED lines have been incorporated to highlight the extravagant architecture.

INTEGRATING ARCHITECTURE
AND LANDSCAPING

FOLLOWING THE CONTOURS
OF THE LAND

The floating secondary volume extends all the way to the river, integrating a dock in the architecture. After a relaxing boat-trip, the client immediately steps into their house. Convenience, luxury, and architecture come together in this unique ‘’back door’’.

Kitchen and dining area

Combining an open floor plan and various sitting areas creates an interwoven interior. An example is the integrated library in the central hallway, or the formal and informal living room adjacent to the kitchen.

The interior contains a recognizable red accent colour, which comes back in various parts of the interior, such as the sofa, chairs, and art pieces.

HYBRID SPACES: PATIO AND SITTING PIT
The hybrid space connects the extension with the main building. It gives space and privacy to the master bedroom, but visually connects the indoor pool with the house.

INTEGRATED BOATHOUSE
The integrated boathouse allows the client to step into their home directly from their boat. The straight walkway is highlighted by the LED-line, guiding the residents home.
